”Döda Fallet
När jag startade Vapnet var det till viss del en reaktion mot rockbandsnormen, det fanns en poäng i att ha en sättning med fyra blåsare, en gitarrist och en sångare. Då kunde folk fortfarande bli besvikna över att vi inte hade en riktig trummis. Nu bryr sig ingen om det.
Alla tidigare inspelningar har gjorts hemma hos mig och det viktigaste instrumentet har varit min dator. Vapnets nya skiva är annorlunda, den kan nog klassas som en traditionell popskiva. Låtarna spelades in tillsammans i en riktig studio och vi har använt oss av många akustiska instrument: stråkar, vibrafon, orkesterpukor, cembalo och så vidare.
Vi spelade in Döda fallet på detta sätt av flera anledningar: dels så hade vi redan börjat spela med en trummis live och dels så hade jag börjat hata att sitta vid datorn. Men det var även ett försök att hitta en väg bort från den ständiga positioneringen inom popmusiken.
Jag känner mig så trött på hur gamla modernistiska värden fortfarande håller ett stenhårt grepp runt popmusiken och -kritiken idag. Samtidigt som Mojo-kulturen slentrianmässigt hånas så dyrkar journalister fortfarande samma idéer om ”det nya och det unga” En trend ska avlösa en annan, och vid varje skifte ska vi anstränga oss för att det ska kännas nytt och meningsfullt. Fortfarande är det några år från sextiotalet och framåt som präglar hela synen på hur musik skall bedömas och utvecklas. Men för mig är alla strävanden efter ”moderna utryck” retro i sig själv. Det är en nostalgisk längtan efter en tid då framtiden fortfarande existerade.
Jag trodde att jag kunde kliva bort från detta när jag lämnade datorn och lämnade över till ett klassiskt inspelningsförfarande. Att det var ett sätt att släppa trenden och plocka upp gitarren. Men det vi har gjort är att fullfölja den förutsägbara cykel jag själv föraktar, eftersom den elektroniska trend vi har sett de senaste åren naturligtvis kommer att få sin akustiska motreaktion.
Men jag väljer att se det här som ett första steget, en medvetenhet. De senaste åren har mannen med gitarren varit en tacksam slagpåse, någon jag har själv raljerat över och försökt distansera mig från. Samtidigt kan samma män köpa sig ett carte blanche genom en laptop eller analogsynth, Det är som om att man har glömt bort att det inte är gitarren i sig som är problemet.
Lite om skivan vi spelade in:
Mattias Glavå spelade in oss, han har spelat in andra skivor som vi gillade så vi frågade honom. Han var inte så överdrivet trevlig, det var skönt. Inspelningen var kanske inte alltid avslappnad, men det låter som att den är det i alla fall.
Låtarna är sig ganska lika, lite fler går i moll. Jag har även försökt att begränsa antal ackord och tonartsbyten. Skrev dock vissa låtar, som Plötsligt händer det inte och Stockholm, sett snett uppifrån innan jag fick den idén.
Jag tänkte länge att texterna var mina sämsta på den här skivan. Men när jag korrläste dem i häftet så såg det ändå rätt bra ut, jag kanske har fått högre krav. Min målsättning är att inte skämmas så mycket, så jag härdar mig genom texter som jag skäms lite inför. Det är därför jag använder ordet ”kärlek” i alla fall två gånger och ger en låt titeln Det rör inte hjärtat.
Om förra skivan på många sätt handlade om att vänta så handlar den här mera om att komma fram och upptäcka att det inte heller är lätt. I Inga fåglar och Jag såg bara dig strävar jag efter att nyansera bilden av kärlek. För den ses ofta som lösningen på ett, eller alla, problem, men vi vet ju att det inte fungerar så. Snart går du inte själv och Jag lät bara sanningen gå är däremot ganska onyanserade, olycklig kärlek är ju oftast det.

Yippie-yay, today Familjens video to "Det snurrar i min skalle", directed by Johan Söderberg, won a grammy award for Best video in Sweden!
It was a knock-out victory where the people voted massively for Familjen! Familjen was also nominated in the Best Hiphop/Dance/Soul category. It was a really close call, he was second right after Adam Tensta. Thats alright though, Adam Tensta deserved it big time, they are collaborating at Familjens upcoming single by the way, where a remix by Adam Tensta will feature!

Juvelen has been quite the Internet phenomenon here in Sweden the past four-five months or so. Being somewhat of an Internet phenomenon ourselves what could be more suitable for us than sign him to Hybris. Especially since we have loved the hell out of his music since we found his myspace!

Juvelen has been quite the Internet phenomenon here in Sweden the past four-five months or so. Being somewhat of an Internet phenomenon ourselves what could be more suitable for us than sign him to Hybris. Especially since we have loved the hell out of his music since we found his myspace!

Juvelen, although having appealed to the masses via the Internet, is very much a live artist. Playing clubs like the Bon Magazine party in Berlin or opening for Tapes n tapes in Stockholm – Juvelen brings down the house wherever he goes!

with an uncomplicated relationship to singing technique and sheet music. We are a coverband, a band of pirates, a band of pearls. Call us a ladies choir if you so desire. OK, it's already 2006 and it's time to announce some great news for the new year.
First of all we have two new artists in the Hybris family: HELL ON WHEELS and ANDREAS MATTSSON! It's so amazing. Hell On Wheels have ,after being a band for over ten years, recorded their best album ever. We love it so much it hurts!
The same with Andreas Mattsson's (ex popsicle etc..) Best solo record after a long time in the biz -- it's full of lovely tunes in a way that you haven't heard him before. Great!

The idea behind Lovely Sweden is quite old, but we haven't had the time to start working on it since now. The idea is really simple: "Spread Swedish pop music to foreign countries."
This will result in, first, a compilation CD with only the best Swedish artists and, second, a website as a helping hand to show you to the right places, labels, people, artists and other essential stuff.

Finally there's an LP coming out with Sarah. 11 fantastic songs collected from the first year with El Perro Del Mar and Hybris.
Sarah wrote this this about the CD compilation the other day:
Since the request for the earlier releases has been huge, a compilation of all the recording sessions (together with a new track) is scheduled to be released in April 2005. I’m sticking with my reluctance to making traditional album. Yet I thought it would be kind of nice to sum up the first recording year of El perro del mar with a plain compilation. No alterations or additions have been made on the tracks since I think it’s best to keep them in their original state. The way they were meant to be.
We are still working on distribution deals for the record. Please come back soon (or add your email to the newsletter) for information on when everything is set.
(( TIAC - Three Is a Crowd ))
TIAC is a new friend of Hybris. TIAC consist of Fredrik, former member of post punkers CDOASS, and Olle. They are making music that will make you want to dance. This spring we will first release a CD-R with TIAC and later on their proper debut CD. This is a duo that have the whole world just waiting for to pick them up.

Östersunds finest (nowadays; Gothenburg's finest) pop band, Sibiria, is in their small home studio! They're recording one of the best (and most awaited) pop records with Swedish lyrics in years (promise!). If everything goes as planned, a first single will be released this Spring, followed by the debut album in Summer 2005.

Vapnet is Martin from Sibiria, with vocals from Martin (also Sibiria). The first cdr/mp3 single was released in December 2004 here on Hybris. During the first or second quarter of 2005, another amazing Single/EP will show up. Download the first single from the Hybris3 section.

In just a few days Hybris will visit Club Heimat @ Landet in Stockholm. DJ: Hybris crew. Live: Vapnet & TIAC! Hopefully, this will be one of many forthcoming Hybris nights this year.
Heimat is Johan's (from Hell On Wheels) new club. Landet is the venue next to the Art School Konstfack, in Stockholm.

First of all we have two new artists in the Hybris family: HELL ON WHEELS and ANDREAS MATTSSON! It's so amazing. Hell On Wheels have ,after being a band for over ten years, recorded their best album ever. We love it so much it hurts!
The same with Andreas Mattsson's (ex popsicle etc..) Best solo record after a long time in the biz -- it's full of lovely tunes in a way that you haven't heard him before. Great!

Mattias and Kalle from Hybris are (together with Martin from the great mailorder Songs I Wish I Had Written, and some other people) founders of an enormous new project called Lovely Sweden. The idea behind Lovely Sweden is quite old, but we haven't had the time to start working on it since now. The idea is really simple: "Spread Swedish pop music to foreign countries."
This will result in, first, a compilation CD with only the best Swedish artists and, second, a website as a helping hand to show you to the right places, labels, people, artists and other essential stuff.

Tomorrow, Friday March 11th, the debut release from Hybris newest friends; TIAC (Three Is A Crowd), will be celebrated (and available for purchase) in Stockholm (@ club Heimat, Landet). There will a great party with live performances by TIAC and Vapnet! (dj: hybris crew & heimat)
The TIAC release is a CD-R single including three new orderish dance pop anthems; Boredom, Dream and Señor Tinto. The single will also be released on Hybris3 (Mp3) later this month.

Finally there's an LP coming out with Sarah. 11 fantastic songs collected from the first year with El Perro Del Mar and Hybris.
Sarah wrote this this about the CD compilation the other day:
Since the request for the earlier releases has been huge, a compilation of all the recording sessions (together with a new track) is scheduled to be released in April 2005. I’m sticking with my reluctance to making traditional album. Yet I thought it would be kind of nice to sum up the first recording year of El perro del mar with a plain compilation. No alterations or additions have been made on the tracks since I think it’s best to keep them in their original state. The way they were meant to be.
We are still working on distribution deals for the record. Please come back soon (or add your email to the newsletter) for information on when everything is set.
(( TIAC - Three Is a Crowd ))
TIAC is a new friend of Hybris. TIAC consist of Fredrik, former member of post punkers CDOASS, and Olle. They are making music that will make you want to dance. This spring we will first release a CD-R with TIAC and later on their proper debut CD. This is a duo that have the whole world just waiting for to pick them up.
(( Sibiria ))
Östersunds finest (nowadays; Gothenburg's finest) pop band, Sibiria, is in their small home studio! They're recording one of the best (and most awaited) pop records with Swedish lyrics in years (promise!). If everything goes as planned, a first single will be released this Spring, followed by the debut album in Summer 2005.

Vapnet is Martin from Sibiria, with vocals from Martin (also Sibiria). The first cdr/mp3 single was released in December 2004 here on Hybris. During the first or second quarter of 2005, another amazing Single/EP will show up. Download the first single from the Hybris3 section.
(( Hybris night ))
In just a few days Hybris will visit Club Heimat @ Landet in Stockholm. DJ: Hybris crew. Live: Vapnet & TIAC! Hopefully, this will be one of many forthcoming Hybris nights this year.
Heimat is Johan's (from Hell On Wheels) new club. Landet is the venue next to the Art School Konstfack, in Stockholm.
